New Education System

Finally it has arrived!!

Why did we have to get a new Minister to bring about the changes? I think the former Minister did a good job but what happened along the way?

I remember well into my second year at UBD undertaking my degree and came across a blueprint of a 'suggested' Education system. Unfortunately the book is not with me now, but I remember the 'suggested' system was totally discarded when brought forward to the Ministry a long time ago.

We all know when changes are made, results will only be seen in the future and not instantly like 'indo-mee'.

The approach by the Minister should be applauded as his efforts will bring about a near total overhaul of the current system. I have not doubt that all aspects and loopholes have been covered before the implementation in 2009

Beforem whenever there was a problem, automatically we would 'fix' it. For example, poor PMB results brought about the introduction of 'N-Level' and what a waste of time and money it has been. I do pity the girls who had to go through such a horrible ordeal.

Stakeholders have to be at the forefront of influencing the system. Most countries review the system every 2 years to see which aspect of the system needs upgrading or enforcing to accomodate and cater to their needs.

As of now the system has failed to dictate what our country needs in order to better our economy.

The 21st Century education system is something which most teachers will want to know more about to prepare themselves when the changes take place. What I wonder is if the course outline for B.A. Education degree will also change to accomodate the new system?

As mush as I agree that everything starts from the grassroots, UBD undergrads and education degree courses should not be forgotten.

I am against streaming but where in the world is this method 'not' used? I once said to senior officers and secondary school principals and the 'then' Director of schools at a 'Thursday Club' discussion that this should be abolished. I voiced my concerns about the Education system and how it needs to be 'revamped' in order to compete with globalisation and this was in 2001.

When I saw the papers yesterday, a broad smile could be seen on my face as I read on. Most importantly, every kid will be given a 'REAL CHANCE' to succeed in life.

Two tumbs up for this near-future transformation. You have my support 110% for the implementation!!
